Matt and Carys Brenin, along with their two children, Awen (6) and Morgan (4) have spent 10 years of building a sustainable lifestyle on whenua in Ōtaki. Starting with bare land, they’ve created a home complete with vege gardens, a perennial food forest, off-grid solar power, composting toilets, and even a wood-fired bath.
What to Expect:
- A guided tour of the property, highlighting the food forest, solar power systems, and composting toilets.
- Insights into Matt and Carys’ journey of creating a self-sufficient, sustainable lifestyle.
- Hands-on learning about building a simple composting toilet and lessons from establishing a 2500m² food forest.
- If the weather permits, enjoy a swim at their favorite spot on the Otaki River.
